The West Royalty Softball Association will be represented this weekend at the under-14 Eastern Canadian championships in Quispamsis, N.B.

West Royalty teams finished first and second recently at the Eastern Canadian qualifiers held in Cardigan and will represent the province this weekend.

The teams began play Thursday with games at 2 p.m. against New Brunswick Two and Ontario One.

"It's great to be able to send more than 20 players from our association to such a big tournament," said association president Chris Halliwell.

"It will be a great experience for all the girls. The girls have worked hard and our association has worked very hard to grow and get more girls playing softball."

The association also had an under-16 team qualify for Eastern Canadians this year.

"It's a testament to the whole association players, coaches and parents," said Halliwell.
