O’Leary plays host to the Canadian men’s softball team when the squad faces the Summerside Chrysler Dodge Eagles in an exhibition game Monday at Ellis Field.
Game time is 6:30 p.m.
It’s a lead-in to the senior men’s national championships Aug. 26 to 31 in Charlottetown.
The squad includes athletes from British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Quebec, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia and Alberta.
Seventeen from this roster will be chosen to represent Canada at the Pan Am qualifier in Argentina later this year.
“Words cannot describe how excited I am to have 20-plus national team pool players coming to O’Leary to play the Eagles,” said event organizer Jeff Ellsworth. “Team Canada has not played in Atlantic Canada for a very long time and to have the boys committed to play in O’Leary it will be a special night.”
Ellsworth and Mitch Hardy both play for the Eagles and are members of Team Canada.
“These athletes are ball players,” said Ellsworth. “You can expect them to make plays like you would see on TV. They hit with the best in the world and can flat out play.”
A home run derby in also scheduled after three complete innings featuring three players from the Eagles against three players from Team Canada.
Before the first pitch the Town of O’Leary, the Eagles and Team Canada will recognize the provincial girls’ under-14, -16 and -18 teams, which earned a medal in the nationals in their respective divisions.
