The P.E.I. Carpenter's Union 1338 Juniors lost 6-3 and 7-2 Thursday to the Metro Mudcats in a doubleheader in Moncton.
In the opener, the Mudcats broke the game open with four runs in the third and added single runs in the fourth and sixth. Nathan McInnis was the losing pitcher while J.J. Oram and Grant Grady were each 2-for-3 for P.E.I.
Winning pitcher was Alex Embree and Mitchell Hazlett was 4-for-4 with a home run to lead the Mudcats.
In the nightcap, costly errors put P.E.I. in an early hole that it could not get out off. Tyson Blue was tagged with the loss with relief of Nick MacPhail. Oram, MacPhail and Spencer Hay recoded the only hits off Hazlett, who pitched 6 1/3 innings to record the win. He also batted 3-for-3 to cap a strong performance. Tyler Walchuck batted 3-for-4 for the Mudcats.
The Carpenter's Union Juniors travel to Saint John, N.B., Sunday for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. Colin Arsenault will be the starting pitcher in the first game.
