Charlottetown Gaudet's Auto Body Islanders

The Charlottetown Gaudet's Auto Body Islanders rode solid pitching, defence and timely bounces to sweep the Chatham Ironmen in a home-opening New Brunswick Baseball League doubleheader Saturday in Charlottetown.

At Memorial Field, the Islanders took the first game 1-0, cruising with Jordan Stevenson for five and two-thirds innings of shutout ball.

Stevenson (1-0) got the win with relief from Brody MacDonald, who tossed one and a third innings to close out the game.

In  Game 2, Chatham tied the contest 3-3 in the top of the fifth inning, but in the bottom half of the fifth Charlottetown took advantage of two Ironmen errors and a botched pickoff attempt at first base to sneak Mark MacLean home from third base for the go-ahead run.

Then Dylan McKenna's two-run home run made things 6-3 in the next inning and Taylor Larkin finished off Chatham's batters in the top half of the seventh for the win.

Charlottetown moved to 3-1. Chatham fell to 1-2.

Next up, the Islanders play the Hub City Brewers on Wednesday in Moncton. N.B. Game time is 7:30 p.m.
