Montague boys blank Windsor, N.S., rugby team

SUMMERSIDE – The Montague Vikings got off to a winning start in the 18th annual David Voye Memorial rugby tournament.

John Ross Young and Dillon Perry scored trys while Coady Forrester added a convert and penalty kick to lead Montague to a 15-0 win over Avon View High School from Windsor, N.S., in a noon-hour game Friday.

In girls’ play, Katie Giles scored two trys and had a convert to lead Avon View to a 22-0 win over Hants East. Julie Morash and Natalie Rippey each had single trys.

Cobequid Education Centre from Truro, N.S., defeated the Colonel Gray Colonels 15-5.

Brianna Preston counted two trys while Sarah Keddy had one score to account for Cobequid’s scoring. Anneke Dykerman scored Gray’s try.

Three Oaks Senior High School is hosting the 23-team senior AAA-calibre tournament, which features 12 boys and 11 girls’ teams.

The host Axemen and Axewomen are both in action at 5 p.m., when they take on Northumberland from Alma, N.S.
