Darcie Handrahan, a two-time high school volleyball all-star, has signed on with the Holland College Hurricanes men’s volleyball team for the 2014-15 season.
The Alberton native, a six-foot, four-inch, left-side hitter, was also a starter with the 2009 Canada Games volleyball team and joins the ‘Canes as the team ramps up to host the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association men’s volleyball national championship next March.
“With Holland College hosting nationals it is a very exciting opportunity. I can’t wait to be a part of the buzz and anticipation leading up to the tournament,’’ said Handrahan in a release. “I’m proud to be a member of the ‘Canes and having the privilege of representing Holland College in a major event.’’
Joe Ryan, Holland College men’s volleyball coach, said he has his sights set on the best recruits available in preparation for the challenge of hosting the nationals.
“Over the past number of years, this program has evolved into a contender and this coming season I feel we will have the talent to not only be a competitive host of nationals, but to compete hard in our conference and have a chance to go into the nationals as conference champions,’’ said Ryan. “If Darcie can be the player that he was back at Westisle in high school and at the Canada Games in 2009, we will be in tremendous shape.’’
