P.E.I. squash players had a successful competition after seven of the 13 divisions of last weekend’s Atlantic Open in Charlottetown went to Islanders.

Winners included Rick Kennedy in masters, Connor Jinks in junior gold, Thomas Cheeseman in junior bronze, Liam Jinks in men’s D, Dakota Cameron in men’s B, Quincy Beck in women’s A, and Mike Buchanan in men’s A.

“It takes an incredible amount of work and a lot of dedicated volunteers to host a tournament that large,” said Emily Brown, Squash P.E.I. president. “We even had a large contingent from Newfoundland who made the long trip over, and a couple junior athletes from Ontario, and from everything we heard, it was well worth the trip. There was a great buzz around the Spa Fitness Centre and UPEI all weekend.”

The regional tourney attracted more than 130 squash players from five provinces.

Squad P.E.I. also won the Premier’s Award for sports organization of the year at the recent Sport P.E.I. banquet.

Valerie Hickox, winner of Women's D, from Summerside CUP, was missed in your article...and I'm sure it wasn't intentional.
