Men's team loses to Sheridan

The Holland College Hurricanes lost 70-58 to the MacEwan Griffins Saturday at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association women’s basketball championships in Saint-Lambert, Que.

The Griffins led 19-14 after the first quarter, but went to the halftime down 30-29. MacEwan won the third quarter by seven to take a 50-44 lead to the fourth.

Jenea Barrett led the Hurricanes with 25 points and 10 rebounds while Ashley Moss had 10 and 10. Point guard Jazlin Barker added 11 points.

The Hurricanes shot 31 per cent from the field, but were 1-for-24 from behind the three-point line.

The Griffins will play Algonquin in tonight’s bronze medal game while the St. Thomas Tommies meet the Normades de Montmorency in the championship game.

The Hurricanes went 1-2 at their first national women’s championship.

The men’s team lost 92-85 to the Sheridan Bruins at the nationals in Squamish, B.C., to finish 1-2.
