AUS women's basketball championship

The Saint Mary’s Huskies look to finish a perfect season in Atlantic Canada today in Charlottetown.

The Canadian Interuniversity Sport’s (CIS) second-ranked Huskies (20-0) play the St. F.X. X-Women (11-9) in the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) women’s basketball final at 2 p.m. at UPEI.

They were the top two teams in the AUS standings this season and it is a rematch of last year’s championship, which the Huskies won 90-57

The Huskies beat the Dalhousie Tigers 73-53 in Saturday’s first semifinal. The X-Women beat the hometown UPEI Panthers 86-82 in overtime.

The Huskies are looking for their third conference title while the X-Women are looking for their second.

The winner of today’s game automatically qualifies for the eight-team CIS championship next weekend in Windsor, Ont.

The Huskies beat the Calgary Dinos 83-73 in last year’s bronze medal game after losing 78-49 to Regina in the semifinal. Regina lost to Windsor 66-57 in the championship game.
