Saint Mary's outscores UPEI 25-11 in second quarter
The UPEI Panthers men’s basketball team’s season is over.
The Panthers lost 94-78 to the Saint Mary’s Huskies on Saturday in Atlantic University Sport (AUS) semifinal action at the Halifax Metro Centre.
The Huskies extended a 16-15 first quarter lead to 41-26 at halftime and the Panthers could not recover.
Boyd Vassell, with 19 points, was one of four Huskies to score double digits.
Donathan (Donnie) Moss with 18 and Deontay (D.J.) Smith with 16 were the only Panthers to score 10 or more.
It was the last university game for Joe Kendrick, who had nine points, three rebounds, three steals and two assists. Stratford’s Aaron Robbins, who will graduate this spring, finished with six points, 10 rebounds and two assists.
Saint Mary’s connected on 52 per cent of its 68 shots compared to UPEI’s 34 per cent of its 76 shots.
The Huskies play the St. F.X. X-Men in Sunday’s 2 p.m. final. The X-Men knocked off top-ranked Acadia 93-89 on Saturday.
