SUMMERSIDE – The Athena girls will play for the P.E.I. School Athletic Association midget AA girls basketball championship today.
Athena will take on the Stonepark Tigers at 1:30 p.m., and Stonepark will meet the Queen Charlotte Coyotes in an all-East Division boys’ final at 3:30 p.m. Summerside Intermediate School (SIS) is the site of the provincial championship tournament.
The Summerside-based Hawks trimmed the East Wiltshire Warriors 51-27 in one semifinal, and the Stonepark Tigers from Charlottetown defeated the Summerside Intermediate School Owls 56-31.
In the boys’ semifinals, Queen Charlotte won 58-36 over Athena while Queen Charlotte outlasted the host Owls 59-49.

Athena Hawks 51
East Wiltshire Warriors 27
The Hawks jumped out to a 23-8 lead after one quarter, and never looked back against East Wiltshire.
The duo of Nikki Arsenault and Katrina Martin dominated the game for the Hawks, combining to score 45 of the team’s 51 points.
Grace Keizer (8) and Haley Cole (7) were the top scorers for East Wiltshire.
Stonepark Tigers 56
Summerside Intermediate Owls 31
The Tigers applied relentless pressure early in the game to gain control.
Stonepark built up a 22-point lead – 31-9 – at halftime.
Lexi McInnis poured in a game-high 25 points to lead Stonepark, which received a 20-point effort from Yasmine Saleh.
Georgia Baker (12) and Callie MacDonald (9) were the top scorers for the Owls.
Queen Charlotte Coyotes 58
Athena Hawks 36
Alex Campbell scored 16 first-quarter points to set the tone for the Coyotes, whose defence was too much for the Hawks to handle.
Queen Charlotte was in front 36-15 at halftime.
John Alex Vos (15) and Jesse Flemming (8) were Queen Charlotte’s other top scorers.
Cameron Paynter’s 22 points sparked Athena’s offence.

Summerside Intermediate Owls 49
The Tigers outscored the Owls by seven points in the fourth quarter to pull out a 10-point win in a close and physical contest.
Adam Ryan started the game by scoring five of his 17 points for the Tigers. Evan Judson (8) and Kobee Ingersoll (7) also contributed to Stonepark’s attack.
Logan MacDougall paced the Owls with a 20-point effort, and Logan Cameron added 19 in the back-and-forth game.
The Tigers held a 27-22 advantage at halftime.

10 a.m. – girls’ bronze: Summerside Intermediate vs. East Wiltshire.
11:45 a.m. – boys’ bronze: Athena vs. Summerside Intermediate.
1:30 p.m. – girls’ gold: Athena vs. Stonepark.
3:30 p.m. – boys’ gold: Queen Charlotte vs. Stonepark.
