Panthers to face SMU in hockey playoffs

UPEI Panthers

The UPEI Panthers will face the Saint Mary's Huskies in the AUS men's hockey quarterfinals after downing the St. FX X-Men 4-1 at MacLauchlan Arena Saturday.

Defenceman Reggie Traccitto scored twice to give the Panthers a fourth-place finish in the conference with a 14-10-3 record.

The Panthers other goals were scored by Mason Wilgosh and Chris DeSousa.

Assists went to Cody McNaughton, Matthew Brenton, Derek Ryckman, Casey Babineau and Harrison McIver.

Brandon Hynes scored St. FX's lone goal unassisted.

UPEI netminder Mavric Parks made 30 saves for the win, while St. FX goaltender saved all but four of 49 shots faced.

Third-seeded Moncton will face the X-Men in the conference's other quarterfinal.

First-place UNB and second seed Acadia have both earned byes from the opening round of playoffs.
