Let the countdown begin.
The 2015 Canada Games start in a year’s time. Prince George, B.C., will host the multi-sport competition from Feb. 13 to March 1.
“It’s an exciting time for athletes as they start to really ramp up their training and their focus,” P.E.I. Health and Wellness Minister Doug Currie told The Guardian on Wednesday.
More than 2,350 Canadians will be competing in the 19 sports, which includes hockey, biathlon, alpine skiing, curling, judo and squash.
Currie attended last summer’s Games in Sherbrooke, Que. and said it was a wonderful event and experience for Island athletes.
“To be around there as a spectator . . . it was just a reminder what an amazing event it is,” he said.
Currie said staff for some of the teams is busy evaluating players as they prepare for the Games.
The province has not named a chef de mission for Team P.E.I.
