UPEI Panthers finish strong in men's basketball win

The UPEI Panthers men’s basketball team finished with a bang Friday night.

The Panthers turned a 10-point deficit through three quarters into an 85-75 victory over the UNB Varsity Reds in Atlantic University Sport (AUS) basketball.

The Reds held quarter leads of 20-19, 39-31 and 59-49.

Deontay (D.J.) Smith had 23 points on 9-of-16 shooting to lead the Panthers while Lorenzo Parker added 17 off the bench, including going 4-for-5 from behind the three-point line.

Donathan (Donnie) Moss added 12 points while Geoff Doane and Jayden Skinner-Nordin each chipped in with nine.

William McFee had 23 points and Javon Masters 17 for the Reds. Masters entered the game averaging a conference-leading 27 points.

The teams meet on Saturday at 5 p.m.

UNB (8-3) and UPEI (6-6) are tied for third place with 20 points, two points back of Saint Mary’s.
