Deontay (D.J.) Smith three rebounds shy of triple double for UPEI

Four UPEI Panthers had double doubles Saturday in a 92-81 victory over the Saint Mary’s Huskies in Atlantic University Sport (AUS) men’s basketball action.

Geoff Doane had 24 points and 10 rebounds, Donathan (Donnie) Moss had 14 and 10, Aaron Robbins 10 and 12 while Deontay (D.J.) Smith had 15 points and 10 assists. Smith was three boards short of a triple double.

Ellis Ffrench added 13 points, five assists and four rebounds as the Panthers won the four-point contest to improve to 5-5. Robbins added four blocks, three asissts and two steals.

Marquis Clayton and Theon Reefer each had 19 to pace the Huskies (7-3).

The Panthers held quarter leads of 29-21, 50-32 and 72-60.

UPEI is back in action Friday when they travel to Wolfville, N.S., to meet the Acadia Axemen at 8 p.m. The Panthers are in a four-way tie for first place with the Huskies, Axemen and UNB with 16 points. UPEI and Saint Mary’s have each played two more games than the other two universities.
