Sport P.E.I. needs a little helping preparing for its 2013 amateur sport awards.
Nominations are now being accepted for its annual awards.
Celebrating the best in Island sport, the Sport P.E.I. awards banquet has become established as one of the landmark events on the sporting calendar, recognizing athletes, teams, coaches, officials and volunteers who have excelled in the past 12 months.
“It has been an outstanding year for sport and there are many fine candidates for the top awards,” said Nick Murray, Sport P.E.I. communications officer. “We ask all our members, and indeed the public, to join in the nomination process and tell us who they think should be recognized.”
Awards to be presented will be the senior and junior male and female athletes of the year, the intercollegiate male and female athletes of the year, the masters award for athletes over the age of 35, team of the year, and awards recognizing the province’s top coaches, officials and administrators.
In addition the Premier’s Award will be presented to the Sports Organization of the Year, as decided as voted on by Sport P.E.I.’s board of directors, while the Lieutenant-Governor’s Award recognizes the top overall Island athlete.
Forms are available at www.sportpei.pe.ca. The deadline for nominations is Friday, Jan. 10. The awards banquet will be held in April at the Rodd Royalty in Charlottetown.
