The Island Storm has signed guard Antwi Atuahene from Mississauga, Ont., and released Ashton Graham.

Atuahene, a six-foot-three guard, won a National Basketball League of Canada championship last season with the London Lightning. He started all eight of London’s post-season games last season, including the four against the Storm in the final. The Lightning released him on Dec. 11.

“The minute Antwi became available, we wanted him,” Storm coach Joe Salerno said.

“He is a tremendous leader, who cares about winning, and winning only. He will add some size to our backcourt, which we are finding out will be needed against teams like Halifax and Moncton.”

Atuahene scored 16 points and handed out 17 assists in the league all-star game in Saint John, N.B.

“He is a tremendous playmaker and very good defensively,” Salerno said. “I think Antwi will make a lot of guys who are currently on our roster, better ball players."

Atuahene played three years at Arizona State University after playing at Father Henry Carr Catholic Secondary School in Toronto. He was named Ontario’s Mr. Basketball by the Toronto Sun in his senior year of high school.
