Lethbridge and Red Deer have submitted letters of intent to host the Canada Winter Games in 2019.
Interested communities had until Dec. 20 to deliver their intent to bid.
“The Canada Games Council is excited that two worthy communities will enter the race to be chosen as the host of the 2019 Canada Games,” said Tom Quinn, Canada Games Council chairman. “After the official launch and receiving the bid procedure guide, these communities understand the work that is required to produce a final bid. We look forward to a very competitive process.”
The bid process will now enter a technical review phase where information must be provided by the communities by Jan. 20, 2014. After the technical phase, communities will enter the bid evaluation phase and will be given until May 30, 2014 to submit their final bid proposal.
A Committee will review and score based on the submitted bid material.
The winning bid will be announced in September 2014.
