North Winsloe native Veronica Keefe won gold in the 72kg class at the Commonwealth Wrestling Championships in Johannesburg, South Africa on Friday.

Keefe, who lives and trains in Montreal, was Canada’s only gold among a contingent of six wrestlers from Montreal representing Canada at the event, that also brought home three bronze medals.

This is Keefe’s second international gold in the past three months as she was also the winner at the Francophonie Games held in Nice, France in September.
