Four Island field hockey players are attending a women’s national team identification camp this week in Vancouver.
Abbey MacLellan, Maddy Koughan and Sarah Sear were selected based on their performance at the under-18 and under-16 nationals in the summer. Grace Sullivan was selected on the strength of her performance in the university season with UPEI.
The camp will take place from Wednesday to Saturday at UBC Wrights turf field and will consist of fitness, training and games for the 30 players selected across Canada.
The camp will be followed by a junior development squad (JDS) Eastern regional camp in December in Toronto. A national camp in the summer of 2014 will formally select the JDS. Members of this squad will represent Canada in the upcoming Junior World Cup and Junior Pan American Games.
MacLellan is a Grade 11 at Charlottetown Rural High School and the daughter of Robert MacLellan and Stephanie Drake, Stratford.
Koughan attended Charlottetown Rural in Grade 10 and this year is attending the Canadian International Hockey Academy in Ottawa. She is the daughter of Michele and Matt Koughan, Stratford.
Sarah Sear is a Grade 11 student at Colonel Gray High School and daughter of Robert and Kim Sear, Charlottetown.
Sullivan played for the UPEI field hockey team this season and was named the Atlantic University League’s goalie of the year. She played with MacLellan, Koughan and Sear on P.E.I.’s under-18 team at nationals in Vancouver and was part of the Target Team for 2017.
The second-year arts student from Charlottetown is the daughter of Val Paton and Derek Sullivan.
