Ryan Martin was selected by the Island Storm in the second round (19 overall) in the NBL of Canada Draft.
A sharpshooter from Maine is coming to Charlottetown looking to earn a spot with the Island Storm.
Ryan Martin, the team’s second-round pick, has signed and will be in training camp next week.
The five-foot-nine, 165-pound combo guard was named the State of Maine’s High School Gatorade Player of the Year in 2008 and graduated from Keene State College this past spring.
“He is a phenomenal shooter and tremendous competitor,” said Storm head coach Joe Salerno.
“A guy his size playing this game has had to fight for everything he has gotten to get to this level. I think an awful lot of those types of players – those are the types of player who win championships.”
Known for his perimeter shooting, Martin led the NCAA (Divisions 1, 2 and 3) in free-throw percentage in 2011-12 when he shot 91 per cent from the line. Martin averaged 15.1 points per game his senior year, while shooting 48 per cent from the three point line.
The Storm kicks off training camp on Wednesday. The team expects to round out their training camp roster with the announcement of their final signing on Tuesday.
The Storm is hosting two intra-squad games, Oct. 19th at Westisle Composite High School, and Oct. 23 at Morell Regional High. Both games tipoff at 7 p.m.
