Peakes Bombers’ Josh Coffin gets ready to unleash a pitch during Kings County Baseball League final action Sunday afternoon against the Stratford 3 Points Aviation Athletics in Stratford.
The Peakes Bombers grabbed a commanding lead in the Kings County Baseball League final with a 4-3 victory Sunday over the host Stratford 3 Points Aviation Athletics.
The Bombers, who won the opener 6-0 Friday in Morell, lead the best-of-seven series 2-0.
The remainder of the series schedule has not been announced.
The Athletics are the defending champions.
Sunday, the Bombers scored once in the top of the seventh to go up 4-1.
The Athletics replied with two runs in the bottom half of the inning but stranded the potential tying and winning runs.
The Athletics grabbed a 1-0 lead in the second, but the Bombers replied in the third with two unearned runs and then added one more in the fourth.
Josh Coffin was the winning pitcher on a seven-hitter and had a hit and an RBI at the plate.
Joe Gardiner also had a hit and an RBI for the Bombers.
Corey Dougay allowed six hits in taking the loss.
Randy and Greg Taylor both had two hits and an RBI for the Athletics.
Friday, Rob Phelan pitched a complete-game five-hitter with nine strikeouts to lead the Bombers.
The Bombers scored two runs in the first, one in the second, two more in the third and added one more in the sixth en route to the victory.
Matt Bradley led the attack, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Coffin, 2-for-3 with an RBI, and Trevor McAree, 1-for-2, were the other top batters.
John Walsh, 2-for-3, and Marshall Ellis, 1-for-2, led the Athletics.
Josh Kirkpatrick gave up 10 hits in taking the loss.
