Charlottetown sees 4-0 lead disappear in QMJHL contest
The Charlottetown Islanders blew a four-goal, second-period lead and dropped a 5-4 shootout decision to the Baie-Comeau Drakkar on Sunday at Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown.
Valentin Zykov scored two goals in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League game and the shootout winner to break the Islanders five-game winning streak.
Charlottetown took a 4-0 lead in the second period on goals by Matej Beran, Yan Pavel Laplante, Deverick Ottereyes and Daniel Sprong.
But the Drakkar responded with four scores of its own, including three straight goals with a 6-on-5 advantage over a two-minute span while goalie Simon Lemieux manned the bench.
P.E.I. goes to 5-0-0-1 while the Drakkar up its mark to 3-2-0-2.
Denis Gorbunov and Frédéric Gamelin had the other Baie-Comeau goals.
Isles goalie Antoine Bibeau stopped 40-of-44 shots in the loss while Lemieux kicked out 29-of-33 shots on the win.
Charlottetown begins a three-game road trip on Wednesday versus Gatineau (8:30 p.m. AT).
