Doug McKinney has signed with the Island Storm for his third season with the National Basketball League of Canada franchise.
The six-foot-nine, 230-pound power forward averaged 8.5 minutes per game last season and was named a second team all-Canadian.
“I'm looking forward to both working hard on the court to help the team win games, and off the court in the community,” said the UPEI and Charlottetown Rural grad. “Fans will definitely like the hard work we bring, both on and off the court."
Storm head coach Joe Salerno says he looks at McKinney as a true veteran.
"It's great to have Dougie back for his third season with us. He made big strides last year and has really grown into a veteran leadership role with our ball club,” he said. “Coming off his first season, Doug realized what it was going to take (physically) to compete in the NBL and has done an incredible job getting his body in great playing shape and keeping it there.
“I think Doug saw his hard work pay off last season, and I am confident he will come into training camp with that same mindset this season. I know Doug is excited about having the opportunity to play professional basketball in the town he grew up in. It should be a great season for him."
McKinney had a career-best 16 points with five rebounds in 27 minutes in a 133-122 win over the Halifax Rainmen on March 16.
