The Charlottetown Gahan House Fawcetts playoff hopes were cloudy at the 2013 Canadian senior men's fastpitch championship in Stratford, Ont., following losses Friday to Quebec and the Three Cheers Pub from Newfoundland and Labrador.
Quebec beat the Fawcetts 7-1 before the defending champion Three Cheers Pub squad pummelled the Island team 14-2.
Charlottetown finished with a round robin record of 3-5 and was in sixth place in the nine-team tournamentbefore all the day’s results were in.
Six teams make the playoff round which begins today at noon AT.
Teams with the best records have a double life in the playoff round.
There, first place faces fourth place and second place tangles with the third- place team in the crossover round.
The fifth- and sixth-place teams play face the losers of the crossovers.
The crossovers winners advance to one semifinal while winners of games against the fifth- and sixth- place teams reach the other semi.
The winners of the first semifinal advance to the final, but the winners of the second semifinal must beat the loser of the first semifinal to reach the championship.
Games between Scarborough (4-2) and the Kitchener Outlaws (1-6), Quebec (1-5) and host Shakespeare Falcons (2-5) and East Hants (3-4) and Don Cherrys (3-4) from Newfoundland and Labrador were still in progress.
