The UPEI men’s and women’s soccer teams will see their first action of the pre-season at home this weekend.
The third annual Mulligan Cup tournament takes place Saturday and Sunday
The invitational tournament provides an excellent opportunity for coaches to assess their prospective athletes in action before making final cuts. The tournament has proven to be a great way to kick off the season and showcase the teams to their many supporters.
The Mulligan Cup was created in honour of Vince Mulligan, who coached UPEI varsity soccer and hockey teams during the 1980s and 1990s.
“I really look forward to this time of year when teams get a chance to look at the new athletes in camp,” said Mulligan. “You always go into a new year with great expectations and you can see it in the athletes’ eyes and through their actions on the field. That’s what makes this tournament so great to watch.”
Competing on the women’s side are Moncton, Mount Allison, Acadia, and UPEI. The men’s side has Mount Allison, Moncton, UPEI and provincial senior men’s champion P.E.I.F.C.
Admission is $6 per day and can be purchased during the tournament or by contacting Panther Central at 566-0368 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Season passes are also on sale.
