Jason MacLean pitched a complete game two-hitter Sunday afternoon as the Northside Brewers opened the Kings County Baseball League playoffs with a 10-1 victory over the Peakes Bombers.
The sixth-seeded Brewers lead the best-of-five series 1-0 with Game 2 scheduled for Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. in Morell.
MacLean also led the Brewers’ offence on Sunday with two home runs.
Taylor Larkin (3-for-3), Colin MacEwen (3-for-5) and Mitch Ryan (2-for-3) were other top batters for the Brewers.
Rob Phelan suffered the loss with relief from Charlie Jay.
Colin Myers had the Bombers’ two hits.
Stratford 10, Outriders 2
The Stratford 3 Points Aviation Athletics began defence of their league title by defeating the Outriders Mud Hens 10-2 Sunday to take Game 1 of their quarter-final series.
Corey Douguay and Kyle MacDougall combined on the win for the top-seeded Athletics while Steve Cochran went the distance in the loss.
Marshall Ellis was 4-for-4 to lead the Athletics at the plate while Douguay, Adam Smith and Randy Taylor all had three hits.
Josh Kirpatrick smacked a two-run home run to help the Athletics’ attack.
The Mudhens were led by Rod Gould’s two hits.
Game 2 goes Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in Morell.
