Ron Matheson wins feature race with Artners in Crime
The Marc Campbell show continues.
The Gold Cup-winning driver recorded five victories Thursday at Red Shores at the Charlottetown Driving Park.
Campbell started the night where he left off last Saturday in the winner’s circle. Bemused posted a 2:00 score for trainer Mark McKinnon and his co-owner Bethany MacLeod of Charlottetown.
The O’Brien champion also won with King of the Rock for owners Barry, Kevin and Trevor Doyle, Earnscliffe, Zanzibar for Kathy Furness, Vernon Bridge, Kaitlyn Rose from the Ralph Sweet stable of O’Leary and Mac Vegas for trainer Nick Oakes.
The feature race went to Artners in Crime and driver Ron Matheson in 1:56.4. Matheson sent the pacer to the front and laid down fractions of 29. 59.1 and 1:28.1. Machinthesand (Walter Cheverie) finished strong for second while Roscoes Child (Brodie MacPhee) was third. Artners in Crime is owned by Bobbi Jo Gaudet and conditioned by Charlottetown’s leading trainer Jackie Matheson.
JK Queen, with Corey MacPherson in the bike, captured the trot class in 2:01.3 for Joe Smallwood, Stratford and Norman Clarey, Charlottetown. BJ High Meadow and BJ Eldorado, from the Bert and Robert Honkoop stable of Montague completed the triactor. It was MacPherson’s second winner of the program.
Gilles Barrieau had a driving triple.
