Moncton Wildcats' Wade Kropp battles for position with Charlottetown Isladers' Malik Johnson during the first period of a QMJHL exhibition game Friday at Red Ball Internet Centre in Moncton.
MONCTON — The Charlottetown Islanders opened their pre-season in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League on Friday night with an 8-3 loss to the Moncton Wildcats.
Malik Johnson with two goals and Alexandre Chenier-Allard with a goal and an assist scored for the Islanders. Thomas Stavert (2), Josh Shatford and Daniel Sprong drew assists.
Liam Hynes (2-2), Mathieu Olivier (2-1), Maxim Pitre (1-2), Cody Drover (1-2), Garrett Johnston (1-1) and Zachary Beaudoin (1-1) scored for the Wildcats.
The teams were tied 1-1 after the first period and the Wildcats led 6-3 after the second.
The Islanders were outshot 50-39.
Charles-Olivier Lajoie and Logan Cooke shared the goaltending duties for the Islanders.
Alex Kelly and Graham Hunt were in goal for the Wildcats.
The two teams play again today in Pownal at 2 p.m.
