Est Non Ila Dulcis smashes overall and mares trotting records
There is no question the Charlottetown Driving Park is lightning fast for Old Home Week 2013 and it became apparent again Friday afternoon.
Est Non Ila Dulcis was a winner in 1:58.2 in the $1,600 Claybourne Memorial Trot for trainer-driver Marc Campbell and owner Angus Buntain of Mississauga, Ont.
The four-year-old daughter of Northern Bailey-Rich Dreams left from Post 4 and laid down incredible fractions of 28.2, 57.4 and 1:28.4 before drawing clear by 15 lengths to win.
The victory erased the former overall track trotting record of 1:58.4 shared by Waiting On A Woman and Moblessinsdinblues, as well as the trotting mares record of 1:59.2 set by Real Housewife and Campbell Saturday night. Diamond Mine (Willie Murphy) was second with Scarlet Patti (Darryl MacLean) third.
A trio of $5,800 Lady Slipper grassroots divisions also headlined the afternoon card. Winners were Seawind Rianna (Brodie MacPhee) in 1:59.2, Ultrasleek (Ryan Perrot) in 1:59.3 and Regal One (MacPhee) in 1:58.2.
MacPhee had three driving wins on the card, while Campbell doubled up as a trainer-driver and trainer Tom Weatherbie scored two wins.
