SUMMERSIDE — It’s been a slow start for P.E.I.’s Nola Murphy rink at her home club in the 2013 Canadian senior curling championships.

The Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club rink is winless after three draws. P.E.I.’s latest setback came at the hands of British Columbia by a 9-5 score on Sunday night.

That was preceded by losses of 13-6 to the Catherine Derick rink from Quebec, and an 11-7 setback to Alberta’s Deb Santos rink.

Murphy, third stone Donna Arsenault, second stone Elspeth Carmody and lead Laurie Tirone play one game today (Monday). That is against Manitoba’s Lois Fowler at 2:30 p.m. It is also Manitoba’s lone game of the day.

Share lead atop standings

Manitoba, Alberta’s Deb Santos and Nova Scotia’s Colleen Pinkney, who won the 2009 Canadian senior women’s championship in Summerside,  share the lead atop the women’s standings after starting the round robin with three consecutive wins.

Santos outscored Newfoundland and Labrador’s Laura Phillips 9-5 in an afternoon game. Both teams went into the match at 2-0.

Manitoba also went to 3-0 with an 8-7 win over Northern Ontario’s Vicky Barrett foursome on Sunday night. Northern Ontario dropped to 1-2.

Pinkney handed Quebec a 6-4 setback in Nova Scotia’s lone game Sunday. Pinkney has two tough tests today (Monday) as her Truro Curling Club rink takes on New Brunswick’s Heidi Hanlon at 10 a.m., and then meets Alberta at 7 p.m.

The Northwest Territories recorded their first win of the 12-team event on Sunday evening, defeating Saskatchewan 9-7.

The Ann McKeller-Gillis rink scored two in the final end to take the win over the Cathy Inglis foursome.
