The Holland College Hurricanes are hitting their stride at the CCAA men’s basketball championships in Montreal.

Holland College didn’t trail in the first half, and they closed on a 14-6 run to take a 38-24 lead at halftime over the Champlain St-Lambert Cavaliers, champions of the RSEQ (Quebec) conference.

The Cavaliers brought the score back to within two late in the first quarter, but the Hurricanes went on an 14-4 run spanning the end of the first quarter and the start of the second to establish a comfortable lead.

Seeded fifth in the national tournament, the ACAA-champion Hurricanes connected on over 50 per cent of their field goals in the first half (17-33), led by 11 points and four rebounds from Leo Morris.

Meanwhile, Alvin Parker has nine points and three assists and Chase Bowden has eight points and seven rebounds.

For the Cavaliers, David Belanger leads with nine points and three rebounds, while Nolan Woodward has five points and four rebounds.

The winner of this game will play the winner of the following game between the top-ranked and PACWEST (B.C.) champion Langara College Falcons and the host John Abbott College Islanders, which will start at 9:30 p.m. Atlantic time.
