Logan Doiron would like to end his major midget hockey career with a trip to the Atlantics.

He will get that chance starting tonight as he leads his Cornwall Superior Thunder into their provincial finals against the Charlottetown Mark’s Work Wearhouse Islanders.

“It’s my last year, so it’s all or nothing really,” said the 18-year-old. “It’s the only thing in our sights. It’s the most important thing to us right now.”

The winner of the best-of-seven provincial final will present Prince Edward Island at the Atlantic Major Midget AAA Hockey Championship, April 4 to 7 in Moncton.

Charlottetown and Cornwall have met seven times this season with Cornwall winning four games.

“It’s going to be a tough one,” said Islanders defencemen Michael White.

The 17-year-old added its’ keys to victory would be hard work and discipline.

“They’re a hard-working team,” he said of Cornwall.

Doiron, the Thunder’s captain, said it has size and likes to play physical.

“Our key to the game is to put the puck in deep and outwork every team.”

White said it was important to get off to a good start and just as critical to maintain the lead once it gets ahead.

Doiron said a quick start would be key, but added his teammates wouldn’t quit regardless of the outcome.

“We’re a battle-back team,” the six-foot-two, 170-pound left-winger said. “If we get down three games, there’s no doubt in my mind we can come back in four.”

White, a two-way blue-liner, recently received the Luc Bourdon Award as the New Brunswick/Prince Edward Island Major Midget Hockey League’s top defenceman.

“It was quite a surprise. I wasn’t really expecting it,” the five-foot-nine, 170-pound Charlottetown resident said. “It wasn’t really my best season.”

There is a rivalry between the teams.

“We all go to school together and have grown up together,” Doiron said. “It should be a good show for everybody.”
