Rural girls, Montague boys net senior A basketball gold

Charlottetown Rural Two downed Montague 44-35 to capture the girls’ gold medal at the Domino’s P.E.I. School Athletic Association senior A basketball championships Monday in Charlottetown.

Alysha Corrigan with 16 points, Michelle McCabe with 12 and Ryann Jinks with 10 led the Rural squad.

Top scorers for Montague were Monica Furness and Thea Stewart with eight points each, Michaela LaPorte with five and Kristen Stewart and Taylor Carroll with four apiece.

Rural led 25-19 at the half.

In the bronze-medal game, Three Oaks Two beat Kinkora 39-32 behind the 20-point scoring of Brianna Arsenault.

Taylor McAulay added six points for the winners while Bethany DesRoches had five.

Top scorers for Kinkora were Hillary MacLeod (12), Amanda O’Connor (8) and Briar Roberts (6).

Kinkora led 20-14 at halftime.

Boys

Montague downed Charlottetown Rural Two 61-44 to capture the boys’ gold medal.

Jagger Acorn (15), Brett Birt-Lundrigan (14) and Mitch Henderson (12) led Montague.

Top scorers for Rural were Nick Frizzell and Kyle Arsenault (12 each), Tanner Ogg (6) and Keegan Lazaric (4).

Montague led 33-30 at the half.

In the bronze-medal game, Kinkora defeated Bluefield Two 52-45.

Top scores for Kinkora were Jason Sobey (23), Sam Milligan (12) and Sam Jay (6).

Leading Bluefield were Ryan Dutton (15), Josh Gallant (12) and Isaac Dawson (6).

Bluefield led 26-25 at the half.
