Sunday evening’s semifinals postponed due to weather
The Nola Murphy rink from the host Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club is off to the women’s final at the Credit Unions of P.E.I. provincial senior curling championships.
Murphy cruised to a 10-2 win over Montague’s Jennifer Scott in the Page A-B game on Sunday afternoon.
Murphy will have to wait to see who her opponent is in the final as the men’s and women’s semifinals, which were scheduled for Sunday evening, have been postponed due to the weather.
Organizers hope to hold both semifinals and finals on Monday. Draw times have not yet been announced.
Rod MacDonald and his unbeaten Charlottetown Curling Complex rink have already qualified for the men’s final. Blair Jay of the Silver Fox will take on Bill Hope’s combined rink from the Cornwall Curling Club and the Silver Fox in the men’s semifinal.
Scott will take on defending champion Shirley Berry and her Cornwall/Silver Fox team in the women’s semifinal. Berry stole a triple in the eighth end to defeat Kathy Clarey of the Montague Curling Club in an elimination game on Sunday afternoon.
With the teams tied 2-2 after three ends, Murphy counted two points with the hammer in the fourth end, and then proceeded to steal deuces in each of the next three ends before the teams shook hands.
The winning rinks will wear the P.E.I. colours at the Canadian senior curling championships from March 16 to 24. The nationals will also be held at the Silver Fox.
