St. Thomas goaltender posts shutout

Kayla Blackmore scored a shorthanded goal in the first period and it was the only offence the St. Thomas Tommies needed in posting a 1-0 win over the UPEI Panthers in Atlantic University women’s hockey action Monday night in Fredericton.

Danielle Miller assisted on the goal, which came at 13:33 of the period.

Julia Sharun recorded the shutout as the second-place Tommies improved to 14-7-1.

Marie Soleil Deschenes made 32 saves for the fourth-place Panthers, who are now 12-8-1.

The Panthers will host the Moncton Blue Eagles (10-10-2) on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. at MacLauchlan Arena.

UPEI will close out the regular season at home this weekend, hosting the Saint Mary’s Huskies on Saturday at 7 p.m. and the St. F.X. X-Women on Sunday at 6 p.m.

The Huskies (12-7-2) are one point ahead of the Panthers in the standings, while the X-Women (20-1-0) lead the conference.
