The UPEI Panthers will play their last home doubleheader of the regular season tonight and Saturday at MacLauchlan Arena.
The Atlantic University Sport squad will take on the St. F.X. X-Men tonight before facing the Saint Mary’s Huskies on Saturday.
Both games are at 7 p.m.
With the Panthers (12-9-2) only two points behind fourth-place St. F.X. (13-8-2), UPEI will have to come ready to compete, said the team’s top line centre, Travis McIsaac.
“It’s a pretty big one,” said the former P.E.I. Rocket captain. “SMU will be a tough one, too. But, hopefully, we can get a couple points from it.”
Entering the new year at under .500, the Panthers boast a 6-0-1 record in the second semester.
McIsaac said it has been a result of a team effort.
“It’s just the way everyone has been playing,” said McIsaac, who netted three of the Panthers’ nine goals in a pair of wins last weekend. “All our forwards and defence are going.
“It’s kind of been a snowball. We had a few good games to start and got some confidence.”
The Panthers have 1-2 records against St. F.X. and second-place Saint Mary’s (16-5-2) this season.
The Panthers will have three games left in the regular season after this weekend.
The team will hit the road to face the Moncton Blue Eagles on Friday, Feb. 1, and UNB on Feb. 2.
The Panthers’ final game is against the St. Thomas Tommies on Friday, Feb. 8, at MacLauchlan Arena.
