Carol Sweetapple meets Shirley Berry in today’s 9 a.m. women’s semifinal at the provincial masters curling championships in Cornwall.

The winner meets Diane MacKay (5-0) and her Charlottetown/Cornwall rink in the noon final.

Sweetapple and her rink from the host Cornwall Curling Club went 3-2 in the round robin.

The defending champion Berry team, comprised of players from Cornwall and the Silver Fox Curling and Yacht Club, finished in a three-way tie for third place at 2-3 with Montague’s Sherren MacKinnon and Cornwall’s Ruth Stavert.

Berry beat both MacKinnon and Stavert 5-4 in tiebreakers to advance.

Bob Maynard (Silver Fox) will meet Bill Hope (Cornwall/Silver Fox) in the men’s semifinal at 9 a.m.

The winner plays Mel Bernard in the championship final at noon.

Maynard lost to defending champion and Silver Fox clubmate Bernard in Thursday Page 1-2 contest.

Hope stole four in the fifth to defeat Des Arsenault and his Silver Fox team 7-3 in the Page 3-4 game to advance to the semifinal.

Men’s and women’s winners and runners-up from the 60 and older competition earn the right to compete in the Maritime masters championships March 7 to 10 at the Capital Winter Club in Fredericton.

The nationals take place April 8 to 14 in Thunder Bay, Ont.
