Heather Moyse hopes to take the next stage in her recovery today.
The Summerside Olympian had surgery six weeks ago after being diagnosed with a torn labrum and bone spurs on the head of the femur and hip socket in her right leg. She has an appointment this afternoon with her surgeon and hopes to get her hip brace off.
"The recovery has been going well," she wrote in an email to The Guardian Wednesday.
"I'm really excited to get the brace off to see where I stand. I believe I'll be given the green light to slowly start strength training again."
She expects it won't take too much time to regain the strength, but a bit longer to return to running and regain her speed.
"I'm just excited to start the next phase of re-training," she wrote.
The dual sport athlete committed the next year and a half to train for the 2014 Olympics in bobsled and to compete for Canada at the World Cup of Rugby in June. Both are happening in Russia.
