MORELL — The Morell Coverall Chevies’ comeback bid fell short Thursday in Game 2 of the Kings County Baseball League final.

The Stratford 3 Points Machining and Aerospace Athletics won 5-4 to take a 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

Game 3 is set for Sunday at 2 p.m. in Stratford.

The Chevies entered the seventh inning trailing 5-2 but received a two-run triple and had runners on first and third when John Walsh got the final out.

Kyle MacDougall pitched five solid innings in picking up the win while Walsh threw the final two innings for the save.

Quen Johnson went the distance in a losing cause.

Stratford had a 2-0 lead before Morell tied it in the fifth.

Andrew MacNevin and Shawn MacDougall each hit home runs in a three-run top of the sixth inning to break the tie.

Jacob Smith and Adam Smith also helped the Stratford cause with two hits each.

The Chevies were led by Derrick Plaggenhoef’s three-hit performance, while Desi Doyle and Jarrod Laybolt each had two.

It is still anyone's championship, but let's give Stratford the credit they deserve. Lots of negative comments about their pitching, but it was their pitching that won the two games for them and kept Morell bats quiet. Stratford on the other hand managed quite a few hits off the "deep pitching talent" of the Chevies. A couple of home runs is a good thing!

ed taylor deserves a lot of credit for this athletics team ,he went out and brought in a bunch of young talented ball players to this sqaud. his main focus was to bring in top calibre pitching and the bats to follow , well done eddy stratford looks like they might win their first championship in 3 decades .

It could be Peakes in the final but they didn't have the pitching to get by Stratford.

is stratford better than morell? the bats for both teams have been really quiet , i was expecting a high scoring series. Still a young series anything can happen
