UPEI rugby Panthers kick season off with 27-8 win

Sam MacIsaac of the UPEI Panthers gets pulled down by two members of the St. Thomas Tommies Saturday during the first game of the season.

The UPEI Panthers opened the season at home with at 27-8 win over the St. Thomas Tommies, Saturday. 

The Panthers opened the scoring early with try from Keisha Rose and Amy Lou Caulier earned the conversion.  The Tommies came back with a try by Hilary Shields but were unable to convert.  Panthers up 7-5. 

Fifth year Panther Jaleesa Villard scored a try to increase the lead 12-5 before the half.

In the second half the Panthers advanced down the field twice witih tries scored by Olivia Landry and Payson Saunders and one conversion and one penalty kick by Caulier. 

Before the game, the UPEI Panthers welcomed St. Thomas into the AUS and celebrated former player Jessica MacDonald.

Player of the game for UPEI was Olivia Landry and from St. Thomas Marisa Walcott.
