It was another big day for P.E.I. at the IPF World Powerlifting Championships in Szczyrk, Poland, on Friday.
Rebecca Chapman of Souris earned an overall silver medal in her sub-junior 72 kg weight class.
Chapman also won a gold medal in the bench press and a bronze in the deadlift.
She finished tied for third in the squat but did not receive a medal as the lifter who gets the weight first does.
Also for P.E.I., Zack McCormack, lifting in the men’s 93 kg division, nabbed the overall bronze medal and added silver in both the squat and deadlift.
In addition, Chapman and McCormack set seven Canadian records to add to the pair set by teammate Courtney Dill.
McCormack and Dill are also from Souris.
Justin Smith of Mount Pleasant also won overall silver in his weight class earlier in the week.
The competition ends Sunday.
Chapman said though she knew all the hard training over the last 18 weeks would pay off, what she accomplished Friday had not set in yet.
She said she was proud to be able represent Canada and P.E.I. and bring medals home.
“I am very proud of all of our Island athletes and they have put P.E.I. on the map around the world with their performances here in Poland,” said coach Larry LeBlanc.
