Thunder, Islanders see opposite results in major midget hockey

The Cornwall Superior Thunder won while the Charlottetown Mark’s Work Wearhouse Islanders lost during N.B.-P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League action Sunday.

At Baie-Ste-Anne, N.B., the Thunder crushed the Miramichi Rivermen 7-0.

Jean-Marc Evans-Renault (2-1), Jordan Buchanan (2), Matt Lange (1-1), Mark MacMillan and Ross Martin all had the goals for the second-place Thunder (14-8-3).

Assists went to Stefan LaPierre (2) and Dakota Vessey.

The Thunder held period leads of 2-0 and 4-0. 

Grant Grady made 21 saves for the shutout.

David Roussel faced 31 shots for the Rivermen (11-13-3).

At MacLauchlan Arena, the Fredericton Canadiens downed the Islanders 6-3.

Scoring for the Canadiens (14-11-2) were Matt Wright (2-1), Brandon Parsons (2), Noah Zilbert (1-2) and Luc Deschenes (1-1).

Isaac Jay, Kameron Kielly and Sam Jay scored for the Islanders (11-17-0).

Michael White (2), Matt Cox, Tyler Doucette, Alex Gallant and Mike Callaghan all had assists.

The teams were tied 1-1 after the first period and the Canadiens led 4-2 after the second.

The Candiens outshot the Islanders 34-28.

Brandon Goodwin was the winning goaltender.

Geoff Gaudet was in goal for the Islanders.

The two Island teams both had games scheduled in New Brunswick on Saturday postponed due to travelling conditions.
