FREDERICTON, N.B. — The UPEI Panthers pulled out a dramatic come-from-behind road victory against the St. Thomas Tommies in an Atlantic University Sport men’s hockey game here Friday night.
Jared Gomes scored with 1:54 remaining in regulation time to lift the
Panthers into a 3-3 tie, and then Chris Desousa scored the winning goal in a shootout to give UPEI a 4-3 victory.
Matt Carter and Reggie Traccitto also scored for the Panthers (12-8-0), who fell behind 3-1 in the first minute of the second period.
Desousa (2), Gomes, Harrison McIver of Newton and Devan Praught of Summerside added assists.
Yuri Chermetiev (2) and Jonathan Bonneau countered for the Tommies (3-14-3).
Randy Cameron of Clyde River contributed a pair of assists.
The Tommies held period leads of 2-1 and 3-2.
Overall, the Tommies outshot the Panthers 39-36.
Jhase Sniderman was the winning goaltender.
Charles Lavigne took the loss.
The Panthers remain in Fredericton to face the conference-leading UNB Varsity Reds tonight.
Moncton posted a 5-1 win over UNB (14-4-2) on Friday night.
