The UPEI men’s hockey team continued their march forward in the second semester Friday night with a 7-3 win over St. FX in Antigonish.
Seven different Panthers scored goals, and eleven players earned points with the Panthers improving to an 11-6 regular season record.
The Panthers opened the scoring 8:09 into the game with a goal from Matt Carter assisted by Dana Fraser and Jordan Knox. Travis McIsaac made it 2-0 with a short-handed goal assisted from Jared Gomes.
Murdock MacLellan got St. FX on the board early in the second, before UPEI continued to score with a zinger from Chris Desousa and a powerplay goal from Dana Fraser to end the period 4-1.
The third period saw a fury of goals from both teams. UPEI’s Jared Gomes scored the Panthers’ fifth just 40 seconds into the period, with St. FX’s R.D. Chisholm answering back just a minute later. UPEI’s Harrison McIver and Jordan Knox added two more before halfway through the third. MacLellan scored again for St. FX at 15:25 to end the game 7-3.
The Panthers head to Halifax Saturday night to face the Saint Mary Huskies at 7 p.m.
