SUMMERSIDE — The Summerside Storm will have a P.E.I. player on its roster after all.

Forward Doug McKinney of Charlottetown has been called back to join the National Basketball League of Canada team just as the regular season is set to begin.

McKinney’s addition is one of two roster changes made as the Storm readies for its home opening week this Thursday and Friday at Credit Union Place.

Joe Salerno, vice-president of player personnel and head coach of the Storm, announced Monday Michael Dale was released over the weekend and the six-foot-eight McKinney was called up to bring the roster to the league maximum of 12.

A graduate of Charlottetown Rural High School, McKinney played five years with the UPEI Panthers from 2002 to 2007.

After graduating from UPEI, McKinney played in Lebanon.

He also coached basketball and was playing in the senior men’s league last year in Charlottetown.

Tickets for the Storm home opener are available by calling 432-1234 or online at www.stormbasketball.ca.

This team has zero management-do bring him back is a joke-and for Doug to come back is an even bigger joke!

This is a great decision regardless for the reason. I was one of the people upset but now a fan again. Doug brings a lot of support with him and this will add excitement to the game. Well done, and see you in the stands! Go Storm!!!

So what if it is??? Doug is a great player and will be a strong member of the team! I was lucky enough to watch him lead strong teams at both Charlottetown Rural & UPEI and he will do great with the Storm! If it was solely a PR move then it was a good one! I am one of many people who had no interest supporting this team when Doug was let go but I guarentee you, now that an Island boy is back on the team there will be a lot of Dougs friends & fans who will become Storm supporters!
