Blogger's ingenuity pays off with Cube

Mark Stevenson has had some funny looks from people while driving lately.
The 24-year-old Summerside auto blogger is the winner of the new Nissan's 'Cube'.
Launched this year by the auto giant, the Nissan Cube is the latest mini-multi-purpose vehicle to be made available to consumers.
Stevenson said while he was happy to win the national competition and loves the car, it doesn't change the fact that people have strange reactions to seeing him driving it.
"It's pretty cool," he said of the car.
"I've been getting a lot of weird looks, though. It's one of those cars that either you love it or you hate it. It definitely catches people's eye."
The shape of the vehicle is what Stevenson means by eye-catching, having a small, compact, almost mini-van like shape to it.
Stevenson initially found out he'd won the vehicle earlier this summer, but only received it last Friday when he was able to pick it up at Clarke Nissan in Charlottetown.
"It's awesome," he said of winning. "You can't really say anything other than that. It's a relief too, though. It was a lot of work."
A lot of work, indeed.
Unlike a lot of contests where winners are selected at random by entering their names in a draw, Stevenson had to put his abilities as a blogger and plain old creative ingenuity to the test to win this contest.
So, after hearing about the contest through an article he read online, Stevenson had to pit himself against other contestants in his quest to win the Cube, by making a video on it, writing a series of blogs on it and basically being as creative as possible while promoting the Cube to others.
"We did a couple of things," he said.
"Me and a couple of friends of mine took a Chrysler Neon, covered it in cardboard and used a frame made of 2x4s and drove it around. It was awesome."
Aside from that he posted articles on www.autonorth.ca, a small auto blog, which he writes for regularly.
He stressed that while he was the winner, he didn't do it alone.
In fact, there were at least a dozen other people who helped him along the way, including other writers for www.autonorth.ca, as well as friends from around Summerside.
