Twelve-year-old Colton Matheson, a Grade 6 student at Montague Consolidated School, has been named ambassador for the 2010 P.E.I. Easter Seals campaign.
Colton, son of Jamie and Debra Matheson and Shannon Lavandier, lives in Montague.
Colton has Down's Syndrome but the talented young man has a quick sense of humor, an ever-present smile and a huge love for music.
He is involved in Special Olympics, and is an avid golfer and local entertainer.
Colton is pleased to be named the 2010 Easter Seals Ambassador.
"My motto is Feel the Joy! I am thrilled to be the Easter Seals ambassador," said Colton.
He will travel across P.E.I. visiting schools during the annual Tim Hortons Easter Seals School Tour scheduled for six days in April, and will also take part in the Easter Beef Show and Sale.
He will be a special guest on the 2010 Easter Seals Telethon, set to broadcast live from Confederation Centre of the Arts at a new time slot, on Sunday, March 28, from 2-5 p.m. on CBC Television where he will share the stage with co-hosts Bruce Rainnie and Matt Rainnie and a top-notch cast of entertainers.
The three-hour telethon will enable Islanders to call in pledges on a toll-free line staffed by volunteers from Aliant.
The Easter Seals Campaign is a franchised project of the Charlottetown Rotary Club, and supported by Rotary clubs in Summerside and Montague.
A direct mail campaign, Tim Hortons Ambassador's School Tour, a live telethon on CBC Television, the paper egg campaign, P.E.I. Rocket Toonie Toss, Dooleys Pool tournament and other fundraising initiatives enable Easter Seals to help provide programs and equipment for people with disabilities on Prince Edward Island, says a news release.
A new fundraising initiative will be the Easter Seals Drop Zone, in which fundraisers dressed as superheroes will rappel off the roof of one of P.E.I.'s tallest buildings. It is scheduled to take place in June of 2010.
