Disappointed in Shea's exit

Editor:

I was disappointed by MP Gail Shea's sudden departure from the House of Commons on Feb. 6, 2013, moments before she could have voted in favour of the NDP-sponsored motion to reverse the recent changes to EI legislation.

So many politicians of all political stripes choose to ‘toe the party line' rather than take a stand for what is right and honourable. Former federal MP Warren Allmand and former P.E.I. MLA, the late Keir Clark, are two notable exceptions.

Ms. Shea must realize that those most affected by these changes are the marginalized or the poor. In fact, when many of these same people are employed, they are also ‘the working poor'. Ms. Shea missed a wonderful opportunity to show support for this group rather than safeguarding her seat at the cabinet table. Shame on you, Gail Shea.

Dianne Fraser,

Summerville
