Editor:

It is with great sadness that I am compelled to respond to the recent court case of a woman who was raped.

Anyone who contends that there was no serious injury or violence to the victim seriously doesn’t understand the concept of rape. Rape is violence, not sex, and it can never be anything more than injury. Rape does not always produce physical scars, but it certainly always produces mental and emotional scars.

We still don’t get it when it comes to rape, sexual assault, it is surrounded by myth, falsehood, lies and untruths. We do not have the right to allow this notion to ever again creep into our consideration of the facts of a sexual assault in a court of law.
